This is just ANOTHER reason to be diligent in what you put into your body!
Have you seen the “Apeel” sticker on your fruits and veggies? It is starting to appear in grocery stores. The fruits and veggies are not wrapped in plastic but there’s a big sign that says “coated in Apeel” to protect freshness and reduce plastic waste. The veggies and fruits also have a sticker on them with the word “Apeel” So, what is this? is it safe?
At first look, it seems like a great mission, getting rid of all the plastics that end up in the dumps! the question that must be addressed is, are we trading one problem for a bigger one that directly affects our health? I am all for getting rid of plastics, I think most of us are! and there are LOTS of ways of doing it that are pretty simple. (ask me if your interested in that) What bothers me personally about apeel, is that they are hiding so much info about how they make it. The warnings and hazard statements are pretty alarming!
I checked the company out, & it’s funded by Bill Gates and others and the WEF endorses it. Although this may not be a bad thing, Mr Gates is clearly on public record for, to be polite, “containing the population”. He also has been purchasing massive amounts of farm land all over the USA.*1
I checked their website out… you can’t find any info about what exactly apeel is. Look at the frequently asked questions, there seems to be no FULL answer to any of the questions.
In doing my research, APEEL, seems to be made, in part, from mono and dyglycerides. Now if you look at these, they are use OFTEN in shelf stable foods, as well as packaged foods, ice cream, baby formula and more, as an ingredient to preserve flavor, sweeten, make softer or less sticky and to make last longer on the shelf. From the research I have found, small amounts of both mono and dyglycerides could be ok, in fact, the FDA will only go as far as saying they are GRASS (generally recognized as safe) in small quantities, DEPENDING on how its manufactured. (that is a key statement, as I have found no info on HOW they are manufacturing Apeel) They go on to say that eating them does NOT SEEM to cause serious health problems and continue by further stating that consuming them in high amounts can cause or raise your risk of coronary artery disease, stroke and diabetes. *2
The reason they state this, is both mono and dyglycerides are trans fats. What this means, is that when you see on a label either or both of these, its a way of hiding trans fats, as they do not need to list them as such under trans fats! For people that have any issues, this can complicate and put them at further health risk. Given that there is no further info on the website and the spokeswoman, in a video online evades direct answers to questions, especially when asked exactly what are the ingredients and how is it made, there might be much concern on eating even more of these as now they are not only in shelf stable foods, they are on our veggies and fruits.
Personally, I was shocked that its in baby formula! addicting our children to “sweets” right out of the womb. Is it no wonder why we see so many children that are overweight, hitting sexual maturity much younger than in decades past and going on to have long term health complications.
In Canada so far, it’s just on cucumbers and maybe apples. In the US it’s avocados, apples, oranges, limes, lemons, cucumbers and others. The company is very mysterious about what the product actually is. And it can’t be washed off no matter how much scrubbing … it even says this on the website in the FAQ.
It is stated that apeel can make produce last up to 3 times longer. I am not sure this is a good thing! we all know that when you purchase food, its to eat it, not let it sit in the fridge for a month,
The Safety data sheet says : APEEL Hazard statements H318 Causes serious eye damage. H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction. H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Precautionary statements P280 Wear protective gloves/ protective clothing/ eye protection/ face protection. P302+P352 IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of water. *3
Thank goodness we have products like NRM, to help not only those with blood sugar issues, but it seems, with all the HIDDEN trans fats, like mono and dyglycerides, ALL of us need to be using the APL lozenges for our health!
Doing research, educating ourselves on these marketing ploys and even taking massive action on growing our own food, helping start community gardens and spreading the word when we learn about these things will not only help us in our own families, it will help our friends and neighbors. This in turn opens the door for each of us to share just how great a product like NRM is! and for that matter, ALL of the APL lozenges!
*1: Received message. Yes, Bill Gates has been purchasing farmland in America. According to a Yahoo Finance article, he recently purchased 2,100 acres of potato farmland in northeastern North Dakota for $13.5 million. He is also investing in other types of farmland and advocating for synthetic meat to fight climate change. Gates owns nearly 270,000 acres of farmland nationwide. I hope this helps!
